Notice:
Benjamin Jean-Claude Franklin died July 27 2020
one day after his 82nd birthday. He is survived
by his son Daniel and daughter Melanie,
grandson Joshua Franklin and ex-wife Elizabeth.
My father was known by his close friends as
John or Ben. He was born in France in 1938, as
a Jew his family soon fled Europe for America
just as world war 2 was breaking out. He found
a home in New York and blossomed as an outgoing
child of successful immigrants.
As a man he traveled to Canada with his parents
to find and share a dream of building the
future. He ran a successful construction
company in St Catharines and enjoyed a dream of
prosperity, he married my mom and raised
children. His senior years were plagued with
health issues, but managed to make the best of
the situation. His love of history, politics,
reading and classical music kept him interested
and occupied. The birth of his grandchild was a
source of pride and joy, and he was able to
share his vibrant spirit with Joshua's high
energy and strong spirit.
His sense of humour, extensive knowledge of
history, his worldly culture, and curiosity for
life will be terribly missed. The world may not
have known him, but the light he brought into
others lives is a big loss. Always easy to get
along with and share a joke, bring smiles to
others and listen to others ideas. His family
loved him, and we wish to celebrate his life.
He will be buried on July 31st, near his
parents.
