John and I were boyhood friends in the Bronx. We made each other laugh a lot. After he moved to Toronto, he would send me handwritten letters about his predictions of future world events, and we would discuss them over the phone.

John will surely be missed! Was just thinking about our Thanksgiving visits when Betty and John would come to visit, you would bring Sharon and I books and kites ......always lots of laughs...... John would never forget to call in early December, always great conversation.... He will truly be missed..... Nothing but very fond memories.......Love to you all....

John was a wonderful addition to our family, always funny, kind, thoughtful and good at making you think with his thought provoking words, and life experiences he had experienced. John was a true friend, faithful at calling us and also reminding us to call our Aunt, he would say she has heard from you in awhile, and he would check to make sure we did ... lol , he was one of a kind kinda guy, and we are so thankful to have known him and had him as a part of our family for so many years. Love you Betty, thank you, for bringing John into our family !! John will be so deeply missed by us!!

The McKenzie family Joyce, Megan and Johnny send their thoughts and prayers to the Franklin Family in the memory of Benjamin Jean-Claude Franklin. These are the fond Memories I have of your John... In the early 1970s I met John Franklin at my brother Jim''s Toronto home and I remember he was the catalyst spark plug for our first meeting. My husband John and I flew in from Cape Cod, Massachusetts, specifically to meet Elizabeth his wife and my long lost sister, and their two young children Melanie and Daniel. It was a joyous special occasion and I will always remember fondly John''s warmth, humor and joie de vivre. Rest In Peace Benjamin Jean-Claude Franklin

John, as he was known to me, was born in Toulouse, France in 1938 to Alice and Abe Franklin. Shortly afterwards, his father left for the United States, because of pending rumours of war and unrest. His family, including his big sister Jacqueline, mother and grandmother soon followed and they ended up in the Bronx, New York. John lived there until he was 17 at which time he and his parents moved to Toronto, Canada. He lived in Toronto, and travelled back and forth to the Niagara Region assisting and supervising various large construction projects on behalf of his father and learning the building business in Niagara Falls and Welland, Ontario. We married in 1969 and in 1970, moved to St. Catharines where John bought 5 acres at Lakeshore and Geneva Streets and on his own built a strip mall called Northend Plaza. He got great tenants like the first self serve Liquor Store in the Niagara Region, plus an A & P Store, and Bank of Montreal, to name a few. He also built 2 of the first condo buildings in St. Catharines called Regency Towers that later became apt. units. Unfortunately because of the economic climate of the early 70''s these buildings and our home in Effingham ended up with creditors. Along came our beautiful daughter Melanie Leah in 1974, while living in St. Catharines. We were very happy to welcome her into our lives. We took a trip to France in the Summer of that year and John got to visit with relatives there he had never met before. He especially loved visiting Toulouse, Bordeaux and Barritz. We met his mother''s cousin Maurice, who had previously been the Mayor of Barritz, and a very interesting character. He had been part of the Jewish underground during the Second World War and rescued and saved many Jewish lives, at the risk of his own. In 1976, our son, Daniel was born in Toronto. A very joyful event too. Years went by and there were many UPS and downs but we always spent holidays, birthdays, special events together as a family for 50 years. We now have a grandson Joshua, who brings us much joy and happiness. With much sadness we attended a graveside ceremony for John last Friday, July 31st. Due to Covid restrictions we were only allowed a limited number of people. Thank you everyone for your condolences and we will remember John for his wonderful sense of humour and his ability to brighten up a room, and his vast knowledge to retain historical and political events.

Dear Franklin family I lost touch with Ben when he moved from Acacia Rd. He was really a very gentle soul. May your memories of Ben lift you through these sad days.
