Notice:
Naftali Schlomowitz passed away peacefully on the evening of Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at the age of 98. Beloved husband for 69 years to Nechama Schlomowitz. Dear brother of the late Meir Schlomowitz. Loving father and father- in-law of Varda and Jan Van Osnabrugge, and Jennie and Jack Schneider. Devoted Grampy of Sean, Aron and Sam; Samantha and Thomas; Nicole and Mikey; and Sydney.
Naftali was our hero. Born in Lithuania in 1927, he was a Holocaust survivor who overcame immense hardship, smuggled himself into Israel, fought in the Israeli War of Independence, and later immigrated to Canada. He worked tirelessly to build a beautiful life for his children and grandchildren. Grampy loved working with his hands-he invented, sewed, gardened, collected stamps, and worked on cars with Jack, among countless other projects. He especially cherished his time at Baycrest, playing Rummikub and taking photos with his grandchildren, enjoying his ginger ale, and eating hot dogs and bagels. The extraordinary care provided by the staff extended his life by six wonderful years. Naftali was deeply loved and cherished, and he will be profoundly missed.
