GARRELFS, Peter Anselm - On Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Trillium Hospital, Mississauga. Loving father and father-in-law of Leah Garrelfs and the late Joe Morana, Paul Garrelfs and Mei Kuan Li, and Alicia Garrelfs and Ibrahim Kamala. Dear brother of the late Hans Wilhelm Garrelfs and dear brother-in-law of Eleanora Garrelfs. Devoted Opa of Kathleen, and Peter. Loving uncle to Hans Wilhelm Garrelfs (Gudrun), great- uncle to Nicklas, Alexander, Katherina and Maxmilian. Extended family including; Lynne and Eddie Ryback, Rosemary and Malcolm Binns, Michael and the late Kathleen Binns, along with many other extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Peter grew up during World War II and did not often speak of his childhood. When he did it was very apparent that he loved his mother, father, brother, and Aunts dearly. Peter moved from Germany to Canada in his early 20s. He settled in Toronto and retired from Pendell Boiler Ltd. as Vice President and part owner.
Peter had the gift of gab and often was the voice you heard at a gathering. If you walked in a room and he was there, you could hear his loud voice with that slight German accent debating about current politics or telling a story about something that happened in history. His son-in-law (Joe) would often say, "I can start talking to your dad about one thing and end up in 1932 with some history lesson" Peter was a fountain of knowledge. He loved learning. When he retired, he taught himself another language and continued to read and learn. He also had a great sense of humor and a deep love of music.
His biggest accomplishment, and what he was most proud of, was his 3 children and 2 grandchildren. He was a typical parent in the sense that he worried about his children always. What was not typical was the special relationship he had with each one of them. To make a child feel that loved, cherished, and always welcomed no matter what is special. His door was always open along with his arms. Even in sickness, he worried about his children. Family was what was most important in life to him.
He left a mark on this world and in so many hearts. He will be forever missed and loved by so many.
