Dear Pearl and Family I am so sorry for the loss of your brother Max. I know his was a long illness and hopefully the fact that his suffering is over will be some comfort, as will knowing that you did everything you could to care for him these past years. I knew Max as the delightful younger brother in a gathering of chaotic but wonderful spirits who danced about my life in my teen years. Those memories of laughter, wise counsel, great food and abundant love are treasures in my life. The Schafer family will always hold a special place in my understanding of what is meaningful. Take care. All of you have a rich legacy.

Rena, thank you for contacting me about Max''s passing. He was a wonderful, bright person with a great sense of humour. He was released at last from a courageous battle and, although many people will feel this loss he is finally at peace. Love and prayers to you and your family.

Dear Margie, Lenny, Pearl, Barbara & Rena, I have so many memories of being in your home, staying for dinner & having homemade pizza & associating with all of you. Sleeping over and sharing a room with Pearl & Max. Even remember when Max became friends with a gray squirrel! So many memories. My sincerest condolences. Your former neighbour, Ellen Morris

I feel a gigantic loss if this person was the youngest son of Reuben Schaffer, my former best friend and partner in umpteen challenges! Max and his brother Lennie kept in touch with me over the years. I always felt I was a family member.
